The experience of Charo Tabales and Mª Luz Rodríguez
Here is a text written by two of your classmates about their Erasmus+experience:
After completing in June 2021 the vocational education training «Technician in care for people with a situation of dependency», it is time to carry out training in workplaces (FCT) or the well known «practices».
We had two possibilities: to do the internship in Ourense, the city to wich the CIFP Portovello belongs, or to take part in the international Erasmus+ program and do it abroad.
When our tutor suggested us to do the internship outside of Spain, we didn´t think twice about the opportunity that presented itself to us (we just went around the city!!). We don´t even think that because of our age we didn´t fit in well with this program (we are used to young men and women participating in the Erasmus+ program).
The opportunity to get to know each other for two and a half months, the way to work in another country, their idiosyncrasies, their way of life, their customs,… We foundit very attractive, knowing that our future is in Spain due to our circumstances personal and family. Either we lived this experience now or we would not be presented with another opportunity.
And so, very excited, we started the internship at the Santa Casa da Misericordia in Vila Nova de Cerveira- Lar María Luisa. It is a non-profit institution a «Home for the Elderly» («Lar de Idosos» in Portuguese), wich welcome people in a situation of dependency.
We have been doing internships for a months and the experience is very rewarding and enriching both in the work with the elderly and dependents, and in the relationship we have with the management staff, the caregivers and other staff who serve the users.
If we take into account that the Portuguese people are known for their kindness, tolerance, sympathy and openness, it is not surprising that the treatment with us is always impeccable, very respectful, cordial and trustworthy.
If our experience is of any use, let it be to encourage you to live this great opportunity.
